Cassy's Story

Our family's journey through childhood cancer, and why we created this community

Cassy

Meet Our Warrior

On October 23, 2023, our world changed forever when our beautiful daughter Cassy was diagnosed with B-ALL Leukemia. She was only 11 years old.

But if you know Cassy, you know she's not just fighting, she's thriving. She's the most beautiful, powerful, strong person you'll ever meet. She's kind, funny, and absolutely loves Stitch from Lilo & Stitch. Her favorite color is blue, and she loves surprising me with Legos. Yes, she gets gifts for me. She wants to be an engineer when she grows up, and honestly, I have no doubt she will be.

Cassy is bossy, sassy, strong-willed, brave, creative, and incredibly intelligent. Throughout this entire treatment, she has stayed brave and strong. We almost lost her twice due to complications, but we never stopped believing. We kept our faith in God, and Cassy kept fighting.

In January 2026, our girl is going to ring that bell. And when she does, every family going through this fight will know there is hope.

Why Cosmic Cassy Exists

When Cassy was first diagnosed, I felt completely lost. I was searching everywhere for resources, for tools, for just something to help us manage the chaos. But everything I found was either scattered across a million different websites, run by people trying to sell us something, or taking advantage of desperate, scared parents.

I couldn't find one place where families could actually help each other without someone trying to profit from our pain.

And I couldn't find a place where I could just talk. Where I could share what we were going through with people who would actually understand. Not just the medical stuff, but the fear, the exhaustion, the sadness. Moms and dads who get it because they're living it too.

So Edgar and I decided to build it ourselves.

Cosmic Cassy is what I wish we had on day one. It's a place where you can find real resources, use free tools, read stories from families who truly understand, and tell your own story without judgment. Let out all that sadness and fear in a place where people actually get what you're going through.

That's it. That's why we're here.

Who We Are

πŸ‘©

Sandra Hernandez

Co-Founder & Community Manager

I'm Cassy's mom. I manage the stories, blog posts, and resources here at Cosmic Cassy.

By day I work as an office manager at a dental office, so I'm pretty good at keeping things organized. But this is different. This is personal.

When Cassy got sick, I needed a place where I could talk to other parents who understood. Not just the medical side, but the emotional weight of watching your child fight for their life. I couldn't find that place, so we built it.

I read every story that gets submitted. I make sure every resource actually helps. And I protect this community fiercely because it matters. It's not about numbers or traffic. It's about families helping families.

If you want to share your story or suggest a resource, I'm here.

Edgar Robledo

Co-Founder & Lead Developer

I'm Cassy's dad. I build all the tools and keep everything running here at Cosmic Cassy.

I'm a developer. When Cassy was diagnosed, I felt helpless. But I knew I could build things. So that's what I did.

Sandra handles the stories and the community. That's her strength. I make sure the tools work, the site stays up, and everything is free. Because no family should have to pay for help when their kid is fighting cancer.

I don't do the writing. I don't manage the resources. I just build. That's how I contribute to this fight.

If you have ideas for new tools or run into technical problems, reach out. I'll fix it.

Supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Cassy receives her treatment at the St. Jude affiliate in Charlotte, NC. The care, the research, the hope they provide to families like ours is beyond words.

We have no business connection to St. Jude. We just believe in what they do. They don't charge families a single dollar for treatment. Not one. That kind of compassion changes lives.

If you want to support the fight against childhood cancer, St. Jude is where your donation actually makes a difference.

Donate to St. Jude

100% of your donation goes directly to St. Jude. We receive nothing.

Help Keep This Site Running

Cosmic Cassy is free for families. Always. But running it costs moneyβ€”hosting, AI tools, email service, domain fees. If you'd like to help us keep the lights on, we'd appreciate it.

But if you'd rather donate to St. Jude, please do that instead. That's what matters most.
